Before I became a fitness instructor, I was just someone who loves dancing and fitness. When I was little, my mom put me in dance, piano, swimming and gymnastics.
In January 2012, I discovered Jazzercise, Zumba and Hula (yes, all roughly the same time). I started with Jazzercise and Hula because I was told they would be easier. When I first did Jazzercise, I felt like I had two left feet. Within a month or two, I picked up the basic moves. As I started to gain confidence, I moved from the very last row in class to the front row. :)
Four months after I joined Jazzercise, I was ready to give Zumba a try. OMG, there was no looking back. I continued to do Jazzercise for another 6+ years while embarking on my "Zumba journey".
At first, I did Zumba once or twice a week. Then something changed in 2018. I realized Zumba was my “happy place” even when life got rough sometimes. I have met so many great people through Zumba. The Zumba community has been wonderful. I joined 24-Hour Fitness and UFC gyms to attend more classes, on top of doing classes at the district park and the recreational centers. I have also done Yoga, Pop Pilates, Bodypump, Body Combat, Les Mills Core, Strong Nation (by Zumba), Cycle, TurboKick, UJam and MixxedFit. I loved almost every format I have tried. It’s good to change it up as our bodies are quite easily adaptable.
When the pandemic hit, I decided to get certified in Zumba and a few other mat-based formats. That way, I can teach more than just Zumba and Zumba Gold (lower impact dance fitness for older adults).
I am currently certified in Zumba, Zumba Gold, Pop Pilates, and Circl Mobility. I am currently working on 2-3 other formats, and my goal for 2025 is to get certified in 2 more things lol
So here I am, instructing Zumba, Gold and Pop Pilates, and loving every minute of it! While I am teaching classes at the Mililani Rec Center and 24-Hour Fitness gyms, I am happily subbing for fellow instructors. Subbing can be fun - I get to meet new participants and new club members. Also, I have noticed I’m getting more and more comfortable teaching and performing in front of strangers. I’m actually really enjoying what I do every week!
I hope to bring you fun classes that help you achieve your fitness goals without you even realizing you are exercising! Let's make your workout time at the rec center and gym your Happy Hour!
Yours Truly,
Sheryl 🥰
